Area Information on Franklinton, NC 

Franklinton is a close-knit Franklin County community of about 1,745 residents as of the 2000 Census.

It was first established as Franklin Depot in 1839 before changing its name to Franklinton in 1842 when the town incorporated.

Since its incorporation, plenty has taken place within the borders of Franklinton.  For instance, the historic Sterling Cotton Mill is located there, which was founded by Samuel C. Vann.

The well-known textile and fabric manufacturer Burlington Industries, was also once located in Franklinton.

Today, the 1.1 square mile community is home to a large Novozymes plan, which employs nearly 500 people!

The plant’s biggest claim to fame is that it’s the largest multi-purpose enzyme manufacturing plant in the country!

Living in Franklinton

Franklinton doesn’t hold many recreational amenities itself, but there are plenty offered in the immediate vicinity, including:

  • Falls Lake
  • Falls Lake State Recreation Area
  • Kerr Lake State Recreation Area
  • And more!

Primary and secondary school students living in Franklinton are served by Franklin County Schools, which boasts a number of quality schools.
