Area Information on Zebulon, NC

Located in the easternmost part of Wake County, Zebulon is a small community of about 4,433 residents as of the 2010 Census.

This community was first recognized in 1907, taking its name from Zebulon Baird Vance, the governor of North Carolina during the Civil War.

During that same year, the town held its first election, in which Thomas Horton was elected mayor.

Later, this Wake County community would annex neighboring Wake field to increase its size.

Today, Zebulon is a part of the larger Research Triangle region. It’s also home to Five County Stadium, which hosts the Carolina Mudcats minor league baseball team.

It features a number of major corporations in the community, such as GlaxoSmithKline and US Food Services.

Education in Zebulon, NC

School-age residents living in Zebulon are served by the Wake County Public Schools system, which is the largest system in the entire state.
Specifically, residents here attend:

  • Wakelon Elementary School
  • Zebulon Elementary School
  • Zebulon Middle School
  • East Wake High School

They also have the option of attended East Wake Academy, a charter school.

There is only one private school located in Zebulon, which is Heritage Christian Academy, however, there are several more within the vicinity.

As with the rest of Wake County, Zebulon residents enjoy close proximity to some of the best public and private colleges and universities in the country.

These institutions include:

  • North Carolina State University
  • Shaw University
  • Meredith College
  • East Carolina University
  • UNC Chapel Hill
  • Duke University
  • Campbell University
  • Peace College

Recreational Amenities in and around Zebulon

Zebulon boasts plenty of public parks in the immediate area, such as:

  • Little River Park, located along the Little River and featuring hiking trails
  • Zebulon Community Park, a 47-acre park with athletic fields and courts
  • Whitley Park – featuring picnic area, tennis courts and benches
  • Gill Street Park – featuring basketball courts, picnic areas and more

Zebulon also has a number of locations that have recently been put on the National Register of Historic Place – a perfect educational trip opportunity for the entire family! These facilities are:

  • Wakelon School
  • Bennett Bunn Plantation
  • George and Neva Barbee House

And of course, Zebulon residents have access to all the amenities that the rest of Wake County has to offer, such as PNC arena, Jordan Lake and more!

Getting around to these amenities is easy when one considers the great transportation system Wake County has, which includes extensive bus lines through Triangle Transit Authority and numerous highways, such as I-40.
