3 Reasons to Explore the 2021 Triangle Parade of Homes

The JAG Team

When you visit the Parade of Homes, you’ll get a good sense for the communities that are growing more popular across Raleigh-Durham.

With fall just around the corner, that means the 2021 Triangle Parade of Homes is coming up fast. With so many new opportunities for homebuyers looking to make a new move in the Raleigh-Durham area, this year’s Parade is expected to be better than ever.

“The Triangle builders value the Parade of Homes as a source of new business on a yearly basis,” said Christy Beck, Parade of Homes chair for the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County. “They get to show the latest and greatest trends, features, and designs. We are excited to be able to continue the tradition of the Parade of Homes even though our builders are faced with supply chain and labor challenges in 2021.”

This free, annual event will be held Oct. 2-3, 8-10, and 15-17 with homes open from noon to 5 p.m. daily. No tickets are required but you’ll still want to plan your tour to get the most out of the event. Visit the Parade of Homes website to build your printable tour map. Be sure to watch the site for up-to-date Covid-19 restrictions and guidance.

What can you expect by touring these homes? Here are three expectations you can find from visiting the Parade of Homes this year.

You’ll see what’s new in homebuilding trends

Sprawling estate homes, modest townhomes, and everything in-between have one thing in common during the Parade of Homes: they all represent what’s hot in homebuilding. Builders have had to get creative with the challenges they’ve experienced in 2021 and they have managed to deliver well above expectations. This year, they continue to create modern designs and open floor plans with the family in mind.

Expect to find adaptable spaces that can change and grow with your family as well as multipurpose spaces for living, working, and playing. You’ll also find the outside coming in. Massive windows bring natural light in, and larger homes extend from the inside out for luxurious living in all spaces at home. On the outside, you’ll see brick, stone, and exterior detailing that beautifully contrasts bold colors.

You’ll also notice homes getting smarter thanks to the most modern technology that makes them run more efficiently.

You’ll find design inspiration

Parade Homes are always designed using the latest trends and 2021 will be no different. Every home will be filled with natural, earthy colors and tones. Pops of color and visual interest from textures, design accents, and hardware are going to be a staple.

Muted colors remained popular in 2021, giving homes a cozy feel with light finishes through woods and countertops. Hints of pinks and blues, plus textured rugs and wall coverings create visual interest and make interiors feel homier.

Look for how these trends extend across all Parade Homes. Even if you’re not looking for a new home yourself, interior trends can help you freshen up the design of your current home if you’re just looking for updates that will help your house feel more modern.

You can explore the Triangle’s hottest communities

Wondering what locations are up and coming across the Triangle? The Parade of Homes will help you find them.

Builders from across the Triangle — as far east as Zebulon and west to Hillsborough, as well as throughout Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and many of the surrounding suburbs — are building new homes within new communities. In 2020, 126 homes by 64 builders across 73 communities were represented and 2021 will be no different.

When you visit the Parade of Homes, you’ll get a good sense for the communities that are growing more popular across Raleigh-Durham. As needs change and new residents move from other states thanks to the opportunities the region has to offer, you may notice larger homes in smaller communities becoming more popular. As the Triangle continues to grow, these up-and-coming communities will be some of the first to welcome new homeowners to the region.
