How To Select The Right Neutral Paint Color for Your Home

The JAG Team

Paint color selection can be overwhelming, especially when you are moving into a new home. While many people know that they want a neutral color, there are many nuances with selecting the right shade that will blend well with the architecture, furniture, and décor of the home. Angelia Moon, owner of Moon Interiors, a Raleigh-based interior design firm, provides some suggestions for the best neutral colors to consider in your home.

“We get a lot of questions about paint colors, specifically neutral paint colors. There are so many different neutral paint colors, but how can you select them?” says Moon. She mentions that she has narrowed down their shades of choice to ten of their most-used colors from Benjamin Moore.

The first thing to consider is whether the shade you choose is warm or cool. Some of the warmer paint colors have peach, gold, and beige undertones. Moon Interiors’ most used warmer neutral colors include Balboa Mist, Revere, Peter Edgecomb Gray, and Manchester Muslim. On the other side of the color wheel, cooler paint colors have undertones of blue and green, and Gray. Moon mentions that their most-used cool neutral colors include white Dove, Swiss Coffee, Acadia White, Wickham Gray, and Misty Gray.

Selecting the right neutral paint color for any particular room can be confusing and overwhelming. Many homeowners have questions about what paint colors to use and how to select one that fits the space perfectly. The best place to start is to determine if you need a warm or cool shade, and then consider the fixtures and furniture in the area.
