DORCAS is aChristian organization with the mission of helping low-income residents in the area through programs, such as free preschool for low-income families and programs to work with the homeless population. The thrift store helps to fund their efforts and initiatives. The store itself is very organized and well-lit. The check-out line runs very efficiently and there is a consistent flow of new items making their way to the shelves throughout the day. This is a great place to find secondhand, high-end items. 

Habitat for Humanity ReStore– 12 locations throughout the Triangle

The Habitat for Humanity ReStores carry furniture, home decor, and tons of home improvement supplies, like faucets, hardware for cabinets, toilets, area rugs, and more. New pieces are constantly being added to the store, so it’s a great place to go for anyone who is moving, needs to refresh their furniture, or is working on a home improvement project. 

Cause for Paws– 2 locations in Raleigh

One of the unique features of the Cause for Paws Thrift Stores is the kittens and cats that are visible in several multi-story habitats. There is also a computer terminal where shoppers can search for animals available for adoption. Their calling card is having a huge section devoted to clothing for men, women, and children. There is a colored tag deal every day of the week for even more savings.

This thrift shop has a boutique feel from the moment that you walk through the door. This store is 100% volunteer run, so the hours are limited to Wednesday through Sunday. The meticulously placed merchandise is easy to find and in good condition. This shop focuses their offerings on housewares instead of clothing. Once a year in October, the shop holds a high-end designer purse and jewelry one-day sale. 

Rescue Mission Thrift Store– 5 locations throughout the Triangle 

The Durham Rescue Mission is the largest and oldest homeless shelter servicing Durham, Chapel Hill and Raleigh. The thrift store offers an online shopping experience through Amazon, which is highly unique. There is a huge selection of gently used items and is a great place for interesting finds. The staff is super friendly and helpful as well.
