HISTORY OF MEBANE

Mebane began when a post office was established in the area in 1809. It wasn’t until the railroad joined the city nearly 50 years later that it began to grow large enough to be granted a charter. That finally happened in 1881 with the town’s industrial growth from White Furniture Company and its tobacco production.
