Mebane, North Carolina is a rural community located in both Alamance County and Orange County. The city was originally named after General Alexander Mebane, Jr., who was a Revolutionary War general as well as a U.S. Congressman.
Although it was originally referred to as Mebanesville in 1881, that name was later shortened to Mebane in 1883. As of the 2010 Census, the 8.5-square-mile city of Mebane had a population of about 11,393.
