The town was named after Jeremiah Morris, who in 1852, donated three acres of land to the North Carolina Railroad to construct a water station, woodshed, and other essential buildings. Morrisville quickly became influential in supporting railroad operations. On March 3, 1875, Morrisville was officially chartered, and by the late 1800s, it had one of the only train depots in Wake County. This advantageous location as a railroad town played a crucial role in Morrisville’s growth and development during its early years.
