Why the Parade of Homes remains one of the Triangle’s most anticipated events

Every fall, thousands of homebuyers, homeowners, and curious residents spend their weekends touring some of the Triangle’s most impressive new homes during the Triangle Parade of Homes.
Some are actively searching for a new place to live. Others are gathering design inspiration, exploring neighborhoods, or simply enjoying a favorite local tradition.
Whatever brings them through the front door, one thing remains consistent year after year: people love seeing what’s new.
“There’s a reason that the Parade of Homes is so popular,” said Paul Kane, CEO and executive vice president of the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County. “It’s fun to go walk through beautiful brand-new homes.”
As the Parade moves beyond last year’s milestone 60th anniversary celebration, it continues to be one of the Triangle’s most anticipated annual events, giving visitors an opportunity to experience everything from luxury estates to thoughtfully designed townhomes and master-planned communities.
It’s a chance to dream
Part of the Parade’s appeal is the opportunity to see homes most people might never otherwise have the chance to tour. Luxury homes often attract some of the largest crowds as visitors explore unique floorplans, custom details, outdoor living spaces, and high-end finishes.
“The overwhelming majority of people get excited about the Parade because they like to go see the big expensive homes,” Kane said. “They like to go see the multimillion-dollar homes that they would never have any other reason to see the inside of.”
For many visitors, that’s part of the draw. “It’s kind of fun to go and dream and see and imagine,” Kane said.
Even for those who aren’t currently shopping for a home, the Parade offers an opportunity to gather ideas and experience the latest trends in home design, architecture, and lifestyle features.
It offers more than luxury
While luxury homes often generate the most buzz, the Parade has always been about much more than high-end real estate.
Visitors can expect to find homes at a variety of price points, including townhomes and more attainable new-construction opportunities throughout the Triangle and surrounding communities.
For buyers who are actively searching for a home, these tours provide an opportunity to compare layouts, evaluate different builders and explore communities that may not have previously been on their radar.
And unlike browsing photos online, walking through a home in person offers a much better sense of how a space actually lives.
Whether it’s an open-concept kitchen, a flexible home office, a first-floor primary suite, or an outdoor gathering area, visitors can experience firsthand how today’s builders are designing homes to fit modern lifestyles.
It allows you to discover new neighborhoods and communities
One of the most overlooked aspects of the Parade may be what visitors see outside the homes themselves. Many of the homes featured throughout the event are located in master-planned communities that offer amenities designed to support everyday living.
“Buying a new home in a new neighborhood is more than just about the structure you’re going to live in,” Kane said. Today, walking trails, resort-style pools, pickleball courts, parks, gathering spaces, and community events have become important parts of the homebuying decision for many buyers.
For visitors touring Parade homes, it’s often an opportunity to discover an entirely new community and imagine what life there might look like. The home itself may draw people in, but the surrounding neighborhood frequently becomes part of the story.
Why people keep coming back
More than six decades after it began, the Triangle Parade of Homes continues to attract visitors from across the region. Some come searching for their next home. Others are collecting ideas for future renovations. Many simply enjoy spending a weekend exploring beautiful spaces and seeing what’s new across the Triangle.
Kane said he understands the appeal. Before joining the Home Builders Association, he was a Parade enthusiast himself.
“I’ve been a Home Builders Association executive for 20 years now, but even before I got into this world, I was a Parade of Homes addict,” he said. “Everybody loves it.”
And that may be the secret behind the event’s enduring popularity and what to expect in 2026. The Parade isn’t just about homes. It’s about inspiration, discovery, community, and the opportunity to experience the places where people will build their lives in the years ahead.
Whether you’re actively searching for a new home or simply curious about what’s happening across the Triangle, the Parade of Homes remains one of the best ways to explore everything the region has to offer.
